October 2022

October has been a very busy month with all the events to celebrate Black History. 
We had Iroko theatre who came to show us their djembes and performed for all the children and their families at nursery. 
We also had the steel Pan Agency as special guest and the children loved playing the steel pans with the band during their workshops. 
All the teachers organised a fantastic play and did some brilliant acting to bring the story of Handa’s Surprise alive for all the children. 
The children acted out the story of Handa’s Surprise spontaneously during their play and using props from the story. We also looked at African patterns and different clothes and Art crafts.

September 2022

A warm welcome to all our new pupils and their families and welcome back to all.  
We are looking forward to getting to know our new pupils and work with parents to give all children the best start in their education. 
We started the new academic year with a trip to the Tower of London to see the Superbloom. Many children and their parents joined us to explore the Tower of London and its moat full of beautiful flowers. 
This month the children have been learning about numbers and counting on their fingers. They produced some lovely hand prints on salt dough to take home. We have also looked at pumpkins and pumpkin seeds and we made some delicious frites. 
The children have also looked closely at their facial features and created their own self-portraits.  
In the Understanding of the World area we have been talking about our families and what we like and dislike. We also looked at breakfast time and what we like having for breakfast. The children have also been involved in preparing their own breakfast.
We have looked at different kinds of bread and the children engaged in making their own bread. It was amazingly good!

July 2022

Another academic year has gone past and we are so proud of all our pupils who have grown so much in every sense and will be leaving nursery to start their new adventure in different Reception classes next September.
The children had the chance to observe the life cycle of butterflies this month at nursery. We had butterflies eggs and followed all the stages from eggs to caterpillars to pupas and then butterflies. We released our lovely butterflies in the nursery garden and it was lovely to see them flying high. 
We had a great graduation day at Alice Model and all children were presented with a certificate and a surprise goodbye gift. 
All children and parents were very happy to take their special books home and to look at all their work and photographs to show all their achievements at nursery. 

We wish a restful and joyful summer holidays to all our families!

June 2022

We started this month with a whole school trip to Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. It was lovely to explore St James’s Park and have a pic-nick while watching the change of the royal guard at Buckingham Place .
Our trip to Broadstairs was great fun and all our parents and children enjoyed the day out. We built lots of sand castles and found many shells on the sandy beach of Viking bay. 
The dentist visited our nursery and all children had their dental health check. Well done everyone!

May 2022

We had a fantastic craft day at Alice Model to celebrate Eid. All children got engaged in making an Eid related craft to take home or to gift to their families or friends. 
We also learned about Muslim faith and Ramadan and had a lovely Eid party at school. The children enjoyed playing different games in small groups. 
We also had some special guest at nursery: chicken eggs. It was an incredibly special moment for all children when the eggs started to hatch and the chicks started to emerge from their eggs. The children were able to follow all the development stages very closely.
We got ready to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee preparing different decorations for our nursery.

April 2022

Welcome back to nursery everyone!
We hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday.
We are all set to start a great new spring term.
In these two last weeks of April the children have been learning about different religions and traditions. We read non-fiction books about Ramadan and Eid. The children have been also looking at Arabic patterns and preparing different kinds of foods such as pakoras.
we also had many other celebrations such as St George’s Day. We had a great tea party at nursery with real tea and Welsh cakes!

February 2022

We read the story of the Chinese New Year with the children and had races in the nursery garden.
On the 3rd of February we had a fantastic stir fry and a taste of jasmine tea to celebrate Chinese New Year. The children were involved in the preparation of the ingredients and had lots of fun in our Chinese Restaurant role play area.
​We also made a Chinese Lion together and the children performed a lion dance around the nursery singing a Chinese song.
In the creative area the children were engaged in wood work and made the animals from the Chinese Zodiac.
​ They learned to use different tools and materials to assemble their creations.
 In the Maths area we looked at Chinese numbers and explored measurements using scales, measuring tapes and measuring cups. We also looked at Chinese numbers and role-played in the Chinese restaurant.
In understanding the World we read the story of Jack and the beanstalk and looked at different bean seeds using a digital microscope. We also produced a pictogram of our favourite bean seeds and planted different seeds to see which ones would grow faster.

January 2022

Happy New Year to all our school community!
We wish you a healthy and prosperous 2022.
We will have another year of creative and play-based fun learning here at nursery!
This month the children have been very busy finding out about seasonal changes and recreating winter landscapes using different media and materials. We also have explored how we can use and recycle different materials to create props for our role-play or toys.
We have been very busy creating Chinese art crafts and reading stories and legends from China in preparation to our Chinese New Year celebrations. We also created a fantastic Chinese restaurant role play area in the Maths room where the children had fun role-playing as clients, chefs and waiters.

December 2021

December has been such a busy month for all children and all members of staff at Alice Model Nursery!
The children prepared their Christmas presents and cards for their friends and families and had lots of fun decorating the Christmas trees and the nursery with lovely Christmas decorations.
We had an amazing cake sale on the 3rd December and a fantastic open day on the 7th December. All children had the opportunity to make a Christmas craft to take home or decorate their own gingerbread man biscuits.  We enjoyed making a fire in the nursery garden and relax reading Christmas stories with a blanket.
All children and their parents were invited to visit St Dunston, our local church, and we also went to sing carols for our neighbouring care home residents in Beaumont square. We had a scrumptious Christmas lunch on the 15th and a Christmas party on the 16th December. The children were greeted by Santa and had a fantastic day!

November 2021

November started with a great trip to the forest park in Mile End. It was such a great day out for all parents and children.  The children engaged with all the forest activities on offer enthusiastically. We walked through the park with our guide Ken who showed us interesting plants and berries we can use to prepare food.
 We also got involved in pond dipping. We found out about different pond creatures and observed them using magnifying glasses. We learned how to lit a fire outdoor in safety and how to prepare hot chocolate with a special kettle. The children loved making arrangements with different colour leaves and made their own stickman using their favourite sticks. It was such a great day!
On the 5th of November we had fireworks in our nursery garden and celebrated Guy Fawkes Day with popcorn and hot chocolate. On the 11th November we celebrated Remembrance Day decorating biscuits and making poppies.
The children were involved in different activities in the nursery garden to develop their gross motor skills and their knowledge about healthy eating and seasonal vegetables and fruits. Many parents found the workshop on phonics with Nicole helpful and interesting.
